I was standing in a hospital gown in the dermatologists office, my skin having suddenly erupted in angry inflamed, painful, itchy psoriasis covering 70% of my body, having asked the question how long treatment will take to work and being told, “Oh it will never go away dear, you will just learn to manage it with treatment”. Treatments with a list of horrifying side effects. So being the fiercely independent and obstinate 14 year old that I was, I quickly turned on my heals and left, determined to heal myself without compromising the health of the rest of my body. Something in me knew this was possible, and it was in this moment, that my journey of understanding my body and healing naturally began.
Wrestling with my inner teen who naturally wanted to party, eat junk food and put somewhat questionable substances in my body, I began to witness first hand in myself, how what I put inside my body, showed up on my skin. I gradually made better choices for my health and became equal parts fascinated and devoted to nutrition and healing.
Some years later I went on to study Nutritional Therapy and Naturopathy at the Collage of Naturopathic Medicine. This really propelled me to the next level of healing myself from the inside out. With an understanding of the role of the gut, the liver, immune system and the skin as our largest organ of detoxification, and using Nutrition, herbs, high quality supplements and detoxification methods, I healed myself and began supporting and guiding others in doing the same.
Without steroids, tar, light therapy or any of the other frankly frightening treatments on offer, my skin did heal. I still get the odd patch here and there, and in truth the only time I have ever been 100% clear is after a week in the sunshine, sea and humidity of Thailand. But the intense itch, the splitting, flaking, pain and embarrassment of living with a skin condition is something I am so grateful to be able to say that I am free of 90% of the time.
So needless to say, I am someone who meticulously checks the ingredients of everything I put in and on my body, and I can wholeheartedly say that I am totally in love with everything Kate has and continues to create. Her integrity, and her dedication to the quality and purity of Wild Source means I am proud and excited to be a part of supporting her vision.
I remember so clearly the day I first met Kate, despite being surrounded by loud music and high party vibes at Shambala festival, we instantly connected over our shared passion and devotion to natural healing and wellbeing. We both had a quiet knowing that one day, the stars would align and we would join forces in some way. Six years and a blossoming friendship later, it feels so exciting to be bringing our knowledge and experience together to provide, you, the wonderful Wild Source customers with even more value and support on your path to healthy, nourished, beautiful skin.
And so here I am, coming to you not as somebody with enviably flawless skin, but as somebody who absolutely understands the physical and emotional complexities of a challenging relationship with skin, and as someone I who whole heartedly believes in the healing power of nature, both inside and out.
